CCA, CCL and CRC
The Climate Change Levy is applied to all non-domestic fuel bills, and effectively taxes businesses on their energy usage and therefore its associated environmental effects. By participating in a Climate Change Agreement, negotiating and meeting targets for energy efficiency improvements, businesses may claim an 80% (now 65%) rebate on their Climate Change Levy for the following two tax years, which for the industry can be of the order of £10M. BCC can also provide help and assistance for companies caught by the Carbon Reduction Commitment, such as guidance on registration and claiming CCA based exemptions. The CRC energy efficiency scheme was originally designed for buildings such as supermarkets and schools rather than energy intensive industry, and BCC actively monitors and provides input into Government's plans, in order to minimise its scope and effects on the industry.
BCC provides access to direct negotiations with Defra, and management of quarterly data and milestone returns. Information is disseminated through a comprehensive series of updates, and BCC acts as a constantly available point of contact for all questions relating to Climate Change Agreements, the Climate Change Levy and the Carbon Reduction Commitment. BCC is recognised by regulators as the leading contact for the ceramics industry.
