Chemicals and REACH
REACH is the European Union's regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals. As chemicals are integral to many ceramic manufacturing processes, REACH has significant implications for our industry and its supply chain.
At present, every company that imports or manufactures chemicals in quantities exceeding 100 tonnes per annum must register the substance by submitting a dossier to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). From 1st June 2018, that threshold for registration will drop to 1 tonne per annum.
The British Ceramic Confederation is fully engaged with the HSE and Defra in the UK, and through Cerame-Unie, EU regulators. We aim to ensure that regulation relating to Chemicals does not adversely affect the industry.
