Economic Outlook and Trade
The British Ceramic Confederation campaigns on economic and industrial policy areas that will help grow and transform the UK ceramic industry. We want to see the UK become even more attractive for research, development and manufacturing. A priority is the need to ensure adequate housing stock – a real social need in the UK – to meet the growing number of households. Access to finance and credit for businesses – based on objective assessment criteria is also important.
Many ceramics companies are strong exporters, earning valuable revenue for the UK economy. The British Ceramic Confederation works with our European Trade Association, Cerame-Unie, in highlighting and managing trade barriers.
We also participate in the Department for International Trade’s Policy Stakeholder Meetings.
– With more than 50% of the sector’s exports sold to the EU, we need to ensure an adequate and comprehensive tariff-free UK-EU trade settlement.
– New UK free trade agreements must support UK ceramic manufacturers.
– We must develop and deploy adequate UK Trade Remedies to protect UK manufacturers against dumped products. Find out more about our work chairing the Manufacturing Trade Remedies Alliance.
