Net Zero

Climate change is one of the biggest global challenges of our generation – and the UK ceramics industry must continue to adapt.

Many years of development, planning and investment are needed but we are committed to this major radical transformation. You’ll find out more about how we are helping the UK ceramics industry to face the challenges ahead on this page.

Industrial Emissions

BCC provides comprehensive representation of the whole ceramics industry in negotiations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions at both UK and European levels.  We are an active member of the UK Emissions Trading Group (which informs UK Government on policy development in this area) and Cerame-Unie’s Climate and Energy / Climate Group. BCC provides a central point to co-ordinate all ceramic consultation responses and is a constantly available point of contact for all questions on EU ETS, the UK’s small emitter opt-out and alternatives to emissions trading.

BCC is also recognised by Regulators as the lead in all negotiations affecting implementation of the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) for the ceramic industry, and is a ceramic representative in regular discussions on Part A1, A2 and B authorised processes.

CCL and CCAs

BCC campaigns for secure industrial energy supplies (gas and electricity) at internationally competitive prices, with a fair transition to a low carbon economy. All energy-intensive industries, such as ceramics, are vulnerable to UK energy and carbon costs. As ceramic companies compete internationally, we need a level playing field. We also work across the industry to help our members share good practice to identify, develop and implement economically viable energy efficiency measures and decarbonisation technologies.

Energy Policy, Security and Costs

BCC campaigns for secure industrial energy supplies (gas and electricity) at internationally competitive prices – and a fair transition to a low carbon economy. All energy-intensive industries, such as ceramics, are vulnerable to massive unilateral increases in UK energy and carbon costs. As ceramic companies compete internationally, we need a level playing field. We also work across the industry to help our members share good practice to identify, develop and implement economically viable energy efficiency measures and decarbonisation technologies.
